Exclusive chat with rising DJ and producer Malifoo
Eduardo Berenguer, better known as Malifoo, is an exciting DJ and producer who is ready to make you feel every beat of his music.
Initially part of Lenx & Denx, Malifoo has already had the chance to perform at worldwide festivals and enjoyed tremendous success with the song ‘Puzzles’. However, sometimes creating music which is true to you is much more important than anything else.
This is how Malifoo’s solo project came about. He began composing at his studio in Brazil at the end of 2016, and the rest is history. 2017 saw Malifoo perfecting his sound before breaking through in his own right with the release of ‘Talkbox’. Now, he has just released a new single called ‘You’, which is bound to create waves in the world of dance music.
We recently had the chance to ask Malifoo about ‘You’, his creative process, what he hopes to achieve and much more.
Hey Malifoo, welcome to CelebMix. Can you introduce yourselves to the readers with a little known fact about yourself?
I have been in the music industry for at least 5 years now and I had a previous project called “Lenx & Denx” with a friend of mine where we got to play at Tomorrowland Brazil and leading clubs such as Green Valley and Anzu Club. I also achieved 6 millions streams with the hit track “Puzzles”.
How did you first get into DJing, and who were your early passions and influences?
When I was a kid, I always knew that I wanted to be a part of the music industry. When I was 16 years old I started to create one of the biggest teen parties in my hometown but I knew that my passion was creating music and not parties. So after that I decided to focus on my career.
You’ve just released your new single ‘You’. What can you tell us about it?
I have been working on this track in Brazil over the last year and I decided to go to LA to record this music with an American based singer called Hailz. I really like to explore the house, french house and groove movements.
How long did it take you to put the song together?
I spent two months closed here in my studio in São Paulo, Brazil with two brazilian producers creating music. After that, we decided to go to LA to finish, adding notes or strings into the music and also recording vocals.
What’s your creative process like? Do you have a particular way of putting a song together?
In my projects, I like to have really creative people in the process of writing and producing music. In this process, I like to always keep the “good vibes” in the environment and I like people who can add different opinions and different stuff in the tracks. I really don’t like to say exactly what I want in each track. I let them create but if I don’t like it or it doesn’t fit the project I always give them directions.
You released the song through The Bearded Man, who specialise in music that’s ‘outside the box’. What’s it like being a part of this label?
It is a really good feeling. It’s so good when you get recognized from your work, especially when it comes to “The Bearded Man”. I am in love with this label.
You’ve already had a lot of success as part of Lenx and Denx. What inspired you to move on to a solo project as Malifoo?
My partner and I had a lot of differences in our music styles. I wanted to create Malifoo because I wanted to share this vision that I always had in my mind.
What do you hope to achieve with your music as Malifoo?
I hope to achieve that people understand the vision and when people listen to the music I want them to have the same feelings that I had when I was producing the tracks, “good vibes”.
What are the biggest changes you’ve experienced in the music industry during your career?
I think the biggest change that any artist can experience in the music industry is how music doesn’t stop, it is constantly changing and you always have to adapt in this industry.
You’ve got a few shows coming up – what can someone expect from your live show?
A lot of good music in my live set! I love to explore the genres of house, going to future house to tech house.
What do you have planned for the rest of 2018?
A lot of good music is coming out and we have a lot of pretty goods shows lined up worldwide!
Thank you to Malifoo for his time. Keep up to date with him on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Soundcloud.
