The Fitchburg High School community is mourning the sudden death of beloved English teacher Nydia Leger. Nydia was a devoted wife to her husband Tyler and mother to daughter Arianna. Her passing on Tuesday, October 24th, 2023 has left family, friends, colleagues and students reeling.

Remembering Nydia's Vibrant Spirit

Nydia was known for her vibrant spirit and passion for teaching. She had been an English teacher at Fitchburg High for over 5 years, working with 9th and 10th grade students. Students and fellow teachers alike remember her for her warmth, compassion and dedication to helping students succeed.

Outside of her work, Nydia was utterly devoted to her family. Her husband Tyler and daughter Arianna were the lights of her life. She filled her time away from school with family activities, cheering Arianna on at soccer games and dance recitals. Nydia had a gift for making every student feel seen, heard and valued. Her presence will be deeply missed at Fitchburg High.

Outpouring of Grief from the Community

News of Nydia's passing has elicited an outpouring of grief from the Fitchburg community. On social media, students and parents shared memories of Nydia's bright spirit and passion for teaching. One student wrote, "Ms. Leger always took time to listen and offer advice. She made English class fun." A fellow teacher said, "Nydia brought light and laughter wherever she went. Her students were so lucky to have her as a teacher."

Calling hours for Nydia will be held on Thursday November 2nd from 4-7pm at Mack Funeral Home in Gardner. Members of the Fitchburg community are invited to pay their respects and provide support for her grieving family.

Counselors will be on-site to meet with students who need additional support processing Nydia's death. Her classes will also meet with counselors and admin staff to ask questions and share memories.
